The railway will soon move towards Aadhaar card based online ticketing system to prevent touts from blocking a bulk of tickets, end fraudulent bookings and curb cases of impersonation.
Aadhaar number has been made mandatory for senior citizens to avail concessions in train tickets from April 1. A three months trail run for this is going on.
As per the new business plan 2017-2018, unveiled by railway minister Suresh Prabhu today, besides the Aadhaar- based ticketing system, the railways will move towards cashless ticketing system by install 6000 point of sale machines and 1000 automatic ticket vending machines across the country. An integrated ticketing app will also be launched by may to promote cashless transaction.
“Aadhaar number will be required for one time registration at the IRCTC ticketing site.
The mobile app is set to be launched in may.
Though there are various mobile applications available for booking tickets, taxis, e-catering and other such services, the integrated app will cover almost the entire gamut of traveling, a railway ministry official said.
